Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University's 13th-ranked baseball team did not have its best stuff to start its three-gamer series against Florida Southern, falling 17-4 on Monday afternoon. Michael Stemle went 3-for-4 with a home run and drove in three of the team's four runs. The Fighting Knights drop to 32-13-1 overall and 12-9-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Florida Southern (22-21, 10-12 SSC) took advantage of the wildness of starter Kyle Carter in the first, loading the bases and scoring first on a Jhalan Jackson sacrifice fly and then bringing all runs home with a home run from Jason Sierra. The Moccasins tallied three more runs in the second to move ahead 7-0.
Stemle brought some hope to the Blue & White offense as Ben Schwanberg led off the frame with a single and the senior centerfielder drove him home with a no-doubt shot to left field, his fourth of the season.
Unfortunately, FSC would go on to score five runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to increase its advantage to 13-2. Matt Tietz singled home Alex DeBellis in the seventh and Stemle drove home his third run with an infield single but the Mocs offense proved too much with another big-inning, this time four runs, in the eighth.
Carter allowed seven runs in 1.1 innings and was followed by Jimmy O'Neill, Robert Guarnieri and Alex Caballero.
Lynn managed 10 hits off Ben Richardson, who allowed four runs in the complete game.
The Fighting Knights close out their three-game series with the Moccasins with a noon doubleheader on Tuesday, April 5. Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
