HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter

  • Lenoir-Rhyne got on the scoreboard right away, but the remainder of the opening quarter saw Lynn fire in a barrage of shots on the Bears' keeper in a physical stretch of play.
  • The Fighting Knights finally caught a break with under-five to go. Keeper Pat Brothers made a stop on the defensive end, Cody Bartusiak scooped it up and pushed a quick counter attack that led to Mikey Urso finding Anthony Rainone for a point-blank shot.
  • Both netminders appeared poised to have a big afternoon as the duo combined for 11 stops in the first quarter.

Second Quarter

  • The Blue & White held the ball in their offensive zone for the majority of the second-quarter start. Quality back-check defense shut down the Bears' potent transition game and limited the home team's offensive chances.
  • After having two consecutive shots turned away, Johnny Gavin made the third attempt a charm, beating two defenders and burying Lynn's second goal of the game.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne finally had its transition offense come through with back-to-back goals, jumping ahead of Lynn, 3-2.
  • On the next faceoff, Christopher Lasprogata battled all the way through the scrum, taking a big hit at the end but giving the ball enough momentum for Rainone to snag it and finish low from outside.
  • Lynn was called for two successive penalties as L-R tallied the go-ahead goal on the second mishap with 1:22 left in the half.
  • With less than five seconds left before the halftime horn, Stephen Polsinelli knotted it up at 4-4 off a Brian Kiel dish for a major momentum boost heading into the intermission.

Third Quarter

  • The Bears' opened up the scoring in the second half, but the Fighting Knights would double up the home team's third-quarter output to take a 6-5 lead into the final frame.
  • After a long offensive possession, Jacob Van Leenen put away his fourth goal of the season on a solo effort.
  • Gavin regained the lead for his team with his second of the game on an outside snipe into the top shelf.

Fourth Quarter

  • Rainone created yet again right away, this time finding Kiel on the right flank to give Lynn its largest advantage of the game, 7-5.
  • L-R's Joe Buduo then locked in offensively, scoring the next four goals for his squad, starting with a man-up tally at the 11:02 mark. Teammate Taylor Thilo assisted on the first three of his four goals.
  • Junior Tyler Janvrin regained the edge for Lynn, 8-7, with an outside shot up the middle.
  • The Bears responded with two more quick ones through transition, putting Lynn back in a hole with less than five minutes remaining.
  • Following a timeout with 43 seconds left, Lynn went into an all-out double-team defense behind the cage, but L-R's Mike Hanlon slipped out and hit the empty net.
  • After what was almost a broken play, Urso slung it one-handed to Ryan Madigan for the goal, drawing Lynn within one (10-9) with six seconds left. However, there wasn't ample time after the faceoff for the Fighting Knights to net the equalizer.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Rainone and Gavin finished as the only Fighting Knights with multi-goal games while Rainone rounded out a four-point effort with two assists and a team-high-tying three groundballs.
  • Urso was held scoreless for just the second time this season, but offered up two helpers and three groundballs. Anchor defensemen Shaun McDonald also picked up three groundballs.
  • Jordon Van Leenen was the only Lynn defender with more than one caused turnover for the second consecutive game.
  • Brothers finished with 12 stops in the cage while is counterpart on the other end, Ryan Crompton, recorded 19.
  • The Blue & White held a 15-7 advantage over the Bears at the X.
