Lynn University

Backman was a two-year letterwinner on the men's soccer team andgraduated from Lynn University in 1989. The Tampa, Fla. nativecaptained the Fighting Knights to the 1987 NAIA NationalChampionship, scoring nine goals and four assists for a career-high22 points to earn NAIA All-America honors. In his two years at LUBackman scored 14 goals, assisted on nine goals and tallied 37points. After his collegiate career he played professional soccerfor the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the APSL before moving onto the TampaBay Mutiny of Major League Soccer. He announced his retirement fromsoccer in 1998 and is currently coaching youth soccer.
